And why do I say this? Because I have had a home-based business since 1973! In 1976 I went full-time, took some risks and big steps, and have never looked back! The lifestyle freedom I have had all these decades has been fabulous!!

Economic times are tough. Your credit card debt is taking you forever to pay off. You’re worried about job security. Your mortgage is high. Your bills are endless. You feel like you can never get ahead when you’re barely getting by. You need another source of income, but between your full-time job, family and other commitments, you just don’t have the time. The answer: start a home-based business. Being your own boss can be challenging, but the rewards are GREAT!

For most of the time that I have been doing my Home Business, it was done the ''old fashioned'' way.... calling and sending messages and handing out cards etc etc -- to everyone who was within that infamous ''3-Foot Rule;'' if they are withing 3 feet of you, prospect! This works better for some than others, and always works at least a little bit for a period of time, but after a few years one runs out of contacts, even when you talk to friends of friends......

If you want to get out of debt, get ahead and create a secondary source of income for your family, the best way to do this is to start thinking out of the box and start thinking online. There are a number of ways to make money through the Internet, here are just a few:

Direct Sales Marketing: this is a form of marketing, usually unsolicited, which involves the seller directly sending messages to the consumer (through emails, phone calls, etc.). The consumer directly responds to the seller, such as by calling a toll-free number or going to a website. This is also referred to as direct response marketing, and it’s more personal than some other forms of marketing. Some online channels of Direct Sales Marketing include: email, Internet banner ads and pay-per-click ads. May sound scary, but with some training it can be fun, and definitely advantageous!

Multi-Level Marketing (MLM): this is also known as Network Marketing. This is a form of marketing that compensates sellers for both the product they sell and the sales from people they have directed to the company. Many disparaging remarks have been made about MLM, but I have been involved in one since 1973, and the Lifestyle Freedom it has afforded has incredibly rewarding!

Those involved with MLM are usually rewarded on a commission basis, through a trickle- down effect: a customer base is expanded through MLM, whereby each marketer is granted a commission as the network expands. Successful MLM results in a number of people receiving royalties from the sales of one person.

In addition, successful MLM utilizes social networking mediums such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. The danger is to use these to do too much ''advertising'' before making friends - and becoming genuinely interested in the people who participate in social networking. The best way to think of these is having fun with friends at a party or around a campfire; later on the opportunity will arise to introduce a business! OR, perhaps, have one in 10 or 20 posts be related to the MLM business....

Affiliate Marketing: this is a form not too dissimilar from MLM, but focuses less on building networks and more on driving traffic to websites. Affiliates make money from their marketing efforts for the visitors and/or customers (traffic) brought to various websites. Some common channels for Affiliate Marketing include: search engine optimization (SEO), email marketing and paid search engine marketing. This concept of revenue sharing is becoming increasing popular among Internet marketers.
